Computers are extremely vulnerable to all kinds of security attacks and viruses, especially if you frequently download from the internet. The best way to protect your computer is to install some kind of anti-virus or security software; however, sometimes this may not be enough.
Even with the most powerful anti-virus and security software your computer can still become damaged and your files can become compromised by a virus. Sometimes your personal information is at jeopardy; even just by entering your credit card or SSN online you can be at risk. The most dangerous hackers will install a keylogger on your computer, that will track everything you type and send it right to the hacker.
Many times people store work or school files on their computers hard drive, and as these files are extremely important, its crucial that some backup measures are taken. Many programs like Norton 360, and even the latest Windows operating system (Windows 7), come with easy to set-up automatic backup features. You can choose what files you want to be backed up, and the external source for the files to be stored.
The most common external source for backup is a 2TB external hard drive. A 2tb external hard drive will provide with more than enough space to backup your entire computer, as it is always a good rule of thumb to purchase an external hard drive that is larger than your computers hard drive size.
Many times, people will get tired of their computer running slow or not working, and will take it to a computer technician and simply say, “Fix my computer!”. However, with some basic knowledge on your part, you can take steps right now to protect your computer from obtaining a virus and file loss. The best thing any computer user can do is to have security software installed and updated frequently, and to have their files set to automatically backup.
