If it is going be a party with just your closest friends then the liberty is your on whatever you would want to wear. On the other hand if you are looking into something a bit more formal then the pressure could be a bit more because of the class of people you are going to be mingling with. If you are still having trouble find the right dress for you then my advice is maxi dress. This type of dress should be more forgiving compared to other types of dresses.
I know you might think that you already have one but you are keeping that for summer or spring wear. Why don’t you check again and see if you have something that is a bit dark in color. A petite maxi dress can still work for formal occasions. See if you have a maxi dress that is knee length. This way you can pair it up with nice strap sandals with heels. You can experiment with the footwear as long as it has heels. You can then accent it with an anklet.
Who would think that a usual choice for a summer dress can be used for something like a formal soiree? If you can get in black, that would be great. You can just go and use a wrap or a bolero if you think the dress is showing too much skin for your liking. You also would want to use chunky jewelry and a big bag to complete your look. If not, you can still go for a velvet glove that matches the color of your dress. This can be as formal as one would wear in a black tie occasion.
