Fish oil remains one of the hottest and most hyped supplements available today. We’ve all seen ads hailing it as a miracle cure for a variety of ailments, but what is it really good for? What are its side effects?

As it sounds, obviously fish oil supplements are oil that comes from fish. Specifically it comes from fish such as sardines, tuna, salmon and mackerel or any fish that is especially oily in nature. The oil is an unbelievable source of Omega 3 fatty acids that have a wide range of benefits that anyone could benefit greatly from.

The medical community is quickly accepting a variety of benefits to both the body and mind as further research continues every day. The National Health Institute has highly recommended fish oil supplements for high blood pressure as well as heart disease and studies have now shown it to also be efficient at preventing cognitive decline from Alzheimer’s. This is not to say that healthy people cannot benefit from fish oil as it has positive effects on mood and is an amazing anti inflammatory supplement among other things. The benefits are great, but what about side effects?

Many of the concerns consist of the side effects of too much fish oil. The vitamins that can exist inside of the oil can build up causing problems for some people that ingest too much. Fish oil obtained from the liver can contain Vitamin A in large amounts and can cause birth defects, hair loss, or liver problems. Using non liver fish oil in suggested amounts should prove harmless to most people with only belching or bad breath persisting as side effects.

While it may seem strange to consume capsules of oil obtained from fish the fact remains that it is an excellent supplement for anyone to add to their regimen. The whole body benefits far outweigh the mild side effects that most experience and more benefits are being found through on going research.
